Peter Marino
A professional musician, producer and highly regarded teacher, has credits that span the national scene including “The Lion King’ on Broadway as well as contributions as the producer of the Villanova Chamber Series and Villanova Jazz Festival.
Peter’s initial love of percussion facilitated the development of interactive educational workshops for various organizations including the Special Olympics, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, the YMCA, ICAP (The International Committee of Artists for Peace) as well as directing various educational programs with charter schools, senior centers, cancer wellness programs and working directly with special needs students and their care givers.
After studying with Barry Bittman,MD and Christine Stevens MSW, the leading researchers and facilitators in a new style of healing protocol, Peter became passionate about the power of percussion and how it could help the mind, body and spirit of players. As the founder of THE HEALING BEAT™, Peter has taken recreational music making to another level and accomplished ground-breaking work with students in the Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Atlanta public and private school systems. These programs are getting measurable results with autistic, ADHD and other special needs students as well. In addition, The Healing Beat’s corporate work educates and inspires the individual to use the power of drumming and percussion to perform better on their jobs, lead healthier lives and connect with their communities. Peter holds degrees in Music Education and Music Performance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with graduate work at Villanova and Temple Universities.
The Healing Beat Program
This interactive drumming and percussion workshop focuses on the use of The Healing Beat system as an educational tool for teachers addressing a wide variety of student learning needs.
The Healing Beat System is a rhythmic teaching protocol with five components. Each of the five components makes use of specific elements of human development and creates unique and powerful life changing activities that contribute to the emotional, intellectual and physical well being of all participants and their environments. The five components of the Healing Beat System are:
1.) Scientific Research: a foundation of quantifiable data
2.) Group Dynamics: a way to build teamwork, camaraderie and support.
3.) Guided Imagery: a technique to shift focus, stimulate creativity and generate positive energy.
4.) Self-Actualization: the “AHA!” portion of each lesson where students experiential learning becomes personal understanding
5.) Rhythmic Exploration: a method that allows every participant to expand their capabilities through the musical learning experience.
